Although there's no way to ensure your PC is 100% secure, all the time (unfortunately, its very much a cat and mouse game) here are some simple tips that we suggest to keep your headaches to a minimum.
- Keep your
Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software updated
- Secure your
wireless network from being accessed openly
- Don't open
email and run attachments from people you don't know
- Pay
attention to the website in the address bar of your browser when you're
banking, on paypal, etc - make sure you're not victim to a phishing
attack
- If your hard
drive starts making noise (knocking, grinding) - IMMEDIATELY shut down
the PC and contact a professional. Failure to do so could
cause
irrevocable data loss.
- Don't use the
same passwords on every website you visit - doing so maximizes the
potential impact of a security breach
- If at all
possible, do not use Internet Explorer as your primary web browser - it
is the least secure of your browser options.
